Internet Security Test

So here's how to perform an internet security test and tell if your firewall solution is stealth mode or not (this can be done for checking both your hardware and/or software firewall):

1. Navigate to Shields Up, which is an excellent free firewall detection tool that I use quite regularly to check firewall status.
2. Scroll down and press the "Proceed" button.
3. Under the "ShieldsUP!! Services" section, click on "Common Ports"
4. The application shows you which IP address you're connecting from, and then attempts to connect back to you.
5. The "True Stealth" analysis will either say PASS or FAILED to indicate whether your site is stealth.
6. Immediately below this is a list of the common TCP/IP ports it has checked.  Ports listed as GREEN are stealth.
7. If you want a more comprehensive test, you can repeat steps 1 thru 3 again, only this time select "All Ports" instead of "Common Ports" and it will check over 1000 known TCP/IP ports for you.
